ABOUT The CRUX
The CRUX Sanctuary is an expanded version home climbing gym carrying over from my first climbing gym called the CRUX. A few months into climbing I decided that I wanted to become a rock climber as a new important part of my lifestyle for strength, challenge and escape from my busy life . So as a family we designed a pole barn on the back of our house in Price Hill in Cincinnati, OH specifically for rock climbing inside. We encased the entire inside of the building with special angles, features and plywood filled with t nuts then created boulder problems and routes all over.
As I met more people within the community I would invite them to my house to climb and hang out. Soon my home became a frequented local climbing spot that evolved into what seemed to be a secret crossover gym for many of the climbers in Cincinnati. We started hosting events like Friday Night Climbing, resetting the walls more frequently and even starting hosting an epic annual bouldering competition. All the while my personal family expanded and grew into a home with 11 adopted medical and special needs kids (8 still living in home).
Our family heard of a vacant local church on the open real estate market two blocks away and jumped at the thought of increasing our personal home living space but more so the prospect of a new bigger home climbing gym. This gym would not be on the back of our house but the front and connected to our living room for a more integrated communal experience for family and climbers. With my remodeling background we acquired the building and expanded the CRUX into the CRUX Sanctuary. The newest of expansions include private parking, 3 top out boulders (some equipped with hidden passageways and a 20 foot slide), a 26 foot tall sport wall and 34 foot sport roof; also multiple aerial rigs with silks, lyras, and swings. Scattered around are a plethora of medicine balls and a workout space with hangboards, overshawdowed by graffiti art, and an amazingly artistic airbnb entire apartment available to book. Our half bath is available for public use but you will need to climb to it. The CRUX Sanctuary has become a special place known for being generous and free; but with stiff grading, epic hard top outs and all around having the best people around in Cincinnati you would want as friends.
